Shan Primrose is a Burmese-Australian Visual Artist and Designer living on Awabakal land (Newcastle), originally from Boonwurrung country (The Mornington Peninsula in Victoria). She has been making art for 11 years and her practises include drawing and painting on paper, canvas and found objects, as well as digital design.

In 2017 she graduated her Bachelor of Visual Art and Design from ACU in Fitzroy. In 2019 Shan undertook an Artist Residency in Puebla, Mexico, where she began exploring themes of self-identity, culture, and her own mental health journey through art. These themes are now central to her work. Her work is also influenced by Australiana and late 90's/Early 2000’s cartoons from channels such as ABC Kids, Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon.

In May 2023 she will be heading to Naples, Italy to undergo another residency experience. There have been many financial obstacles getting in the way of this opportunity so thanks to donations from friends, family and her incredible Australian art community she was able to afford the residency costs and flights. She still has some outstanding costs including travel insurance and art supplies so she has made the difficult decision to sell her latest body of work instead of exhibiting it.

These original artworks have been created in Newcastle, Australia over the past 9 months and are visual representations of taking the leap of moving across the country to commence her healing journey from a rough few years.
